Hiking to Aurora Lighthouse: A Simple Family Adventure in Baler
Have you ever gone on a trip that wasn’t planned for weeks but turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences? That’s exactly what happened when my cousins, siblings, and nephews decided to visit Aurora Lighthouse in Baler, Aurora.
It wasn’t a special occasion or a planned adventure. We simply wanted to spend time together, enjoy nature, get some exercise, and create new memories as a family. Sometimes, the best adventures are the simple ones.
This hike gave us all of that—beautiful scenery, lots of laughter, a bit of a challenge, and an unforgettable view waiting at the top.

Where is Aurora Lighthouse Located?
Aurora Lighthouse is located in Diguisit, Baler, Aurora, one of the province’s most scenic coastal areas.
Getting there is fairly easy. Simply follow the road leading to Diguisit until you reach the end. You’ll notice a road barrier with a STOP sign, making it easy to identify the entrance.
Near the entrance is a small establishment or resort where visitors pay the entrance fee. There’s also a spacious parking area, making it convenient whether you’re riding a motorcycle or driving a car.
Because of its location on top of a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Aurora Lighthouse has become one of Baler’s favorite viewpoints for both locals and tourists.
Our Family Hike to Aurora Lighthouse
Our trip started with excitement and plenty of jokes. Since we were hiking as a family, the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable from the very beginning.
The first part of the trail is relatively flat, allowing everyone to warm up before the real climb begins.
After a few minutes, the trail becomes steeper. You’ll enter a rocky and tree-covered section where the climb starts to get more challenging. The path isn’t dangerous, but some areas are steep enough that you may find yourself holding on to exposed tree roots or sturdy vines for extra support.
As you continue climbing, the scenery gradually changes.
The forest opens into a grassy hillside with fewer trees, giving hikers their first breathtaking glimpse of the Pacific Ocean. This part of the trail was probably one of my favorites because every few steps rewarded us with a wider and more beautiful view.
The hike usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your pace and how often you stop to rest or take photos.
Although the trail can be tiring, it’s still manageable for beginners with average fitness.
Beautiful Scenery Along the Way
One thing I really enjoyed about this hike was how the scenery kept changing.
One moment you’re surrounded by trees, then suddenly you’re walking across grassy slopes while looking out over the endless blue ocean.
Every turn offered another beautiful photo opportunity.
Our group stopped several times—not because we were exhausted—but because we simply couldn’t resist taking pictures and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
The fresh air, the sound of the wind, and the relaxing atmosphere made the hike feel less like exercise and more like a family bonding experience.
Reaching Aurora Lighthouse
After reaching the top, we finally understood why Aurora Lighthouse is one of the most visited viewpoints in Baler.
Standing there, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Baler Bay, and the surrounding mountains.
The cool breeze instantly makes you forget the effort of climbing the hill.
It’s the perfect place to relax, take photos, record videos, or simply sit quietly while enjoying the scenery.
During our visit, visitors were no longer allowed to climb the lighthouse tower itself.
However, I couldn’t help but remember my visit back in 2015, when climbing the lighthouse was still allowed. I was fortunate enough to reach the top of the tower, and from there I could even see Polillo Island in the distance on a clear day.
Although that part of the experience is no longer possible today, the viewpoint itself remains just as beautiful and absolutely worth visiting.
Simple Moments That Made the Trip Special
Once we reached the summit, there wasn’t much to do—and honestly, that’s exactly what made it enjoyable.
We spent our time talking, laughing, taking photos, recording videos, and simply appreciating the view together.
The kids had fun exploring the open space while the adults relaxed and enjoyed the cool mountain breeze.
There were no schedules to follow.
No pressure.
No rush.
Just simple family bonding.
Sometimes, those quiet moments become the memories you treasure the most.
Helpful Tips Before You Visit
To make your hike more enjoyable, here are a few tips:
- Bring enough drinking water because the climb can be tiring.
- Wear comfortable shoes with good grip.
- Bring a hat or sunscreen if you’re visiting during the day.
- Don’t forget your camera or smartphone because you’ll definitely want plenty of photos.
- I personally recommend visiting around 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM when the weather is cooler and the afternoon sunlight makes the scenery even more beautiful.

Aurora Lighthouse is more than just another tourist destination in Baler.
It’s a place where you can enjoy nature, get a little exercise, and spend quality time with family or friends.
The hike may leave you slightly tired, but once you reach the top and see the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding mountains, every step becomes worthwhile.
Our visit reminded me that meaningful adventures don’t always require expensive travel or detailed plans.
Sometimes, all you need is a simple invitation from family, comfortable shoes, and the willingness to climb a small hill together.
